Ready for a winter sports holiday

How do you work out your level?

The number of ski or snowboard lessons you need depends on your experience. Have you never been on skis or a snowboard before? Then you’ll start with the basics. Do you already have some experience, but still find turning or braking tricky? Then you can work on those specific techniques during your lessons. Naturally, you’ll want to take enough lessons before your holiday so that you’ll be gliding down the slopes with ease!

The age at which you start also plays a part. We often find that children pick up skiing and snowboarding more quickly, as they aren’t afraid and get better and better through play. Are you only starting later in life and have you never been on skis before? Then you might need a bit more time to feel completely comfortable on your skis.

Not sure which level is right for you? Don’t worry! At SnowWorld, we’re happy to help with personalised advice, so you can take lessons that match your experience and master the technique step by step.

Your options & advice

  • Choose the right level
A great lesson starts with the level that suits you. That way, you’ll learn at your own pace and get the most out of your lessons.
  • Fancy giving it a go first?
Not sure yet whether skiing or snowboarding is for you? Then start with a taster lesson and see for yourself!
  • Want to learn the basics in a few weeks?
With our 3-week course, you’ll work on your technique step by step, so you’ll find it easier and easier to make turns and ski down the mountain.
  • Want plenty of practice with personalised attention?
During a private lesson, you’ll have the instructor’s undivided attention and can focus specifically on the areas you’d like to improve.

Why start at home and not in the mountains?

  • Ski lessons by the hour in the mountains are often more expensive than at home.
  • You build up your fitness in advance, before you even set off
  • That way, you’ll hit the first slope with confidence, armed with better technique and knowledge.
  • Our Dutch instructors tailor their teaching to what you or your child needs.

What should you bring to your first skiing lesson?

We realise you’re not going to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe before you’ve even set foot on a pair of skis. But what do you actually need?

Honestly? Actually, with some fleece clothing and gloves, you’re well on your way! The most important thing is that you wear warm clothes that allow you to move around easily. Do you already have your own ski or snowboard gear? Then you can, of course, just bring that with you! If you don’t have everything yet, you can hire a ski suit, helmet and ski or snowboard equipment at SnowWorld. That way, you don’t have to buy everything yourself straight away.

How many lessons do you actually need?

The number of ski or snowboard lessons you need depends on various factors. These include your experience, your age and how quickly you pick up new techniques. Are you starting from scratch? If so, you’ll often need several lessons to master the basics, such as keeping your balance, braking and turning. Do you already have some experience? Then you can focus on improving your technique and making smoother turns.

It also makes a difference how often you practise and what you want to learn before your winter sports holiday. The most important thing is that you take enough time to practise the techniques properly. That way, you’ll be able to enjoy the slopes even more during your holiday. Not sure how many lessons are right for you? We’d be happy to help you at SnowWorld with personalised advice!
