Skiing fun between glacier slopes and lake views
With its extensive range of slopes and mountain huts, ski-in/ski-out access straight from the town centre, and panoramic views of Lake Zell and the Hohe Tauern mountains, the Schmittenhöhe is a real highlight. Five long valley runs, one of the longest fun slopes in the world, the black run with gradients of up to 70 per cent, and numerous winter hiking trails are just some of the many winter sports options on Zell’s local mountain. The Ski’n’Brunch events in January and February are a special experience, offering an exclusive early-morning trip to the Schmittenhöhe for skiing and breakfast.
The Kitzsteinhorn is Salzburg’s only glacier ski resort. Wide glacier slopes with top-quality snow up to over 3,000 metres above sea level, modern cable cars, designated freeride routes, world-class snow parks and marked ski touring routes are sure to set winter sports enthusiasts’ hearts racing – all easily accessible via ski-in/ski-out facilities. But non-skiers too can enjoy alpine diversity at this year-round destination at 3,029 metres above sea level: the TOP OF SALZBURG and National Park Gallery panoramic viewing platforms, Cinema 3000 and Salzburg’s highest restaurant make up the fascinating range of attractions at Gipfelwelt 3000. Further down towards the valley, the family-friendly Maiskogel mountain beckons with gentle, wide slopes leading right into the centre of Kaprun. Families with children really feel at home here.
