The many possibilities of winter

Winter sports have a long tradition in all 18 National Park villages. Whether you’re a winter hiker, ski tourer, downhill skier, cross-country skier or snowshoer – everyone enjoys the unspoilt winter landscape, the glistening snow crystals in the fresh air and the magnificent views of the mighty three-thousand-metre peaks of the Hohe Tauern.

870 kilometres of slopes

The eight ski resorts in the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region, including the Zillertal Arena, Wildkogel Arena, Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen, Weißsee Gletscherwelt, Zell am See-Kaprun, Rauriser Hochalmbahnen, the Gastein Valley Ski Area and the Großarltal-Dorfgastein Ski Area, are among the hidden gems of the Alps.

A 1,300-metre climb in a single run

The Smaragdbahn cable car in Bramberg takes you up to an altitude of just under 2,100 metres, where the world’s longest floodlit toboggan run begins. Then it’s time to get your toboggan ready and whizz down the 14-kilometre-long, thrilling toboggan run under floodlights all the way down to the valley.

Unspoilt landscapes

Those who prefer to hike through the unspoilt valleys of the national park can discover a unique winter landscape on guided snowshoe walks with national park rangers. This offer is included in the National Park WinterCard, a loyalty card available from December to mid-April at participating partner establishments in the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region. What’s more, the card offers over 30 benefits at numerous attractions across the region. After all, there is plenty to discover for guests of all ages in the Alps’ largest protected area. Unspoilt nature, exercise and relaxation in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park ensure a sense of balance, physical wellbeing and restful winter days.
