Seven winter sports resorts offer a wide range of activities

With its seven picturesque winter sports resorts – Flachau, Wagrain-Kleinarl, St. Johann-Alpendorf, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Eben and Filzmoos – the Salzburg Sports World forms the winter heart of “Ski amadé”, Austria’s largest ski association with 760 kilometres of slopes. The stunningly beautiful slopes, the family-friendly services on offer, challenging snow parks, fun slopes and 25 ski and snowboard schools guarantee a varied winter holiday in the home of former professional skier Hermann Maier and numerous other skiing stars.

The highlight of the 20/21 winter season is undoubtedly the new “Panorama Link” gondola lift – the realisation of a long-cherished vision in the heart of Ski amadé. Spanning over three kilometres, the cable car connects the ski areas of Flachau, Wagrain, St. Johann, Kleinarl, Flachauwinkl and Zauchensee. Winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy 210 kilometres of interconnected slopes – a true paradise for keen skiers and snowboarders! As part of this spectacular expansion, an exciting new challenge has been launched – 5 valleys, 12 peaks, in a single run:

The “12 Peaks Trophy” is 91.5 kilometres long and guarantees 10,000 metres of vertical descent across 12 peaks and 5 valleys. A trophy in black, red or blue awaits every finisher – depending on how long it takes to complete the ski circuit. Accompanied by the stunning mountain panorama of the Salzburg Sports World, the challenge also becomes a day of skiing enjoyment!

A particular hit with children are the winter adventure parks “WAGRAINI’s Winterwelt”, the “Geisterberg” in St. Johann and the “Fichtelland” in Radstadt-Altenmarkt. Cosy ski huts, 18 toboggan runs, the Therme Amadé and the Wasserwelten Wagrain complete the offering.

In summer, the Salzburg Sports World is a mecca for nature lovers, hikers and cyclists: the 350-kilometre-long Salzburg Alpine Trail winds its way through the region, the award-winning mountain bike trail network spans 700 kilometres, and there are beautiful riverside cycle paths as well as 20 designated e-bike tours.

Ready for the ultimate mountain bike adventure? This cycling experience is aimed at anyone who wants to really push themselves to the limit: 136 kilometres and 4,500 metres of elevation gain await. The STONEMAN TAURISTA – Roland Stauder’s exclusive mountain biking highlight in Austria – stretches past sparkling mountain lakes, lush alpine meadows, rustic mountain huts and the summit crosses of the Salzburg region. The challenge is to complete the route in one, two or three daily stages and secure the Stoneman trophy in gold, silver or bronze. The Stoneman Taurista is available from mid-June to the end of September.

Another summer highlight is the “Salzburg Summit Game” – mountain hiking becomes a fun-filled nature experience for adults and the whole family. In each of the seven holiday resorts of the Salzburg Sports World, the aim is to climb a beautiful peak and literally hike through its history. Hikers can pick up a tour book from the local tourist offices, in which they can collect the stamps from all the peaks: specially designed rituals encourage you to linger in the mountains for a while, to recharge your batteries and connect with these special places. Have you climbed all seven mountains? Then a lovely surprise awaits you!
