A Day in the Life of an IceKart Marshall

There’s no doubt about it, being an IceKart Marshall is the coolest and most original job there is. Right? Curious about what a “typical workday” for an IceKart Marshall actually looks like? We’ll tell you all about it in this blog!

After opening the doors and loading the IceKarts, our Head Marshals start their day by testing the ice track and the lap-time software themselves. It’s a relaxed way to wake up, drifting around the track (-2 °C) and maybe even breaking your personal record. Next, the Head Marshals and Marshals review the day’s schedule. Groups may come in for group outings, company events, or perhaps even a unique bachelor party. Of course, we also regularly have guests come to drift with their kids, family, or friends!

Our IceKart Manager, Marco, talks about the work on the ice kart track: “In addition to welcoming and guiding groups, an IceKart Marshall has many other responsibilities. A very important and often underestimated part of our work is maintaining the track and everything around it. At IceKart Rucphen-Breda, we work with various machines and materials. All of these items need to be properly maintained. This ranges from minor maintenance such as repairing a visor that has come loose from a helmet to washing our special IceKart coveralls. When it comes to maintenance on and around the track, the tasks become a bit more substantial. Because we work in the cold and with ice, the work is quite unique. What many people underestimate is that ice forms very slowly, so you don’t see the effect right away. For example, there’s often more ice in the outside turns. Fortunately, we’re experts in this, and we’ve developed various methods behind the scenes that allow us to keep a close eye on it.’
